Utterly devoid of wholesomeness but not without a certain sleazy appeal, like a spandex-clad Siren luring us to our ruin. Describes most daytime television, tabloids, pop music, teenage hair statements, heavy-metal T-shirts, tattoos, kung fu films - in fact nearly everything in contemporary culture that is not either boring or pretentious. |
Treadmill
The central feature of a stress test or a nine-to-five job, capable of precipitating a heart attack in either situation. |
Trinity
The traditional threefold divinity worshipped by the ambitious: money, sex and power. Now apparently superseded by a new octinity; money, sex, power, youth, fitness, low cholesterol, a tight butt and computers. |
Troops
Expendable male bodies sent to stop bullets during obscure foreign uprisings. |
Trust Fund
A lifetime on the private dole, thoughtfully arranged by Daddy so that Hugo and Araminta might avoid the public one. |
Truth
The blinding light that causes so many of us to wear sunglasses indoors and out. |
Tumour
A mass of cells that grows haphazardly and serves no discernible purpose. |
