HAIR DYES
Stick with your distinguished gray. Use of permanent hair dyes may cause bladder cancer. |
HAIRDRESSER, BEING A
When your six-year-old offers to cut your hair like she cut her Barbie's, let her—for your hairdresser's sake. Hairdressers are at unusually high risk of contracting bladder cancer, and may develop allergic contact dermatitis from the chemicals with which they work. |
HALLOWEEN
Four times as many children aged five to fourteen are killed while walking on Halloween evening compared with other evenings, and many are injured in falls. The latex in Halloween masks cangive some children rashes, asthma attacks, or other allergic reactions. Trick or treat! |
HANGOVERS
Hangovers may increase the risk of cardiac death (which, if your hangover is bad enough, may not seem like such a terrible idea) and can produce cognitive and visual-spatial impairments that are hazardous in some kinds of work. |
HEADACHES
Children who have frequent headaches are more likely to have physical and mental health problems when they grow up. Of course, this could have something to do with what's giving them the headaches. |
HEADS, BALD
Bald men are more likely to develop heart disease than men with hair. And no, hair plugs will not help, but nice try. |
HEADS, ROUND
People with round heads are more likely to have serious snoring problems. That's why, when the little red-haired girl moved in with Charlie Brown, she moved right back out again.... |
HEADS, SMALL
If you carry the APOE e4 gene, which puts you at risk for Alzheimer's, having a small head makes it three times more likely that you will actually get the disease. Take that bicycle pump out of your ear. |
HEALTH
